COLLETSVILLE, NC--
A mother and her son were looking for worms in Caldwell county and ended up finding the remains of a body wrapped in a blanket.
Caldwell County sheriffs said that the body is probably that of a murder victim.
Items we found on top of the body looked like they were made to conceal the body's location, said Lt. Chris Brackett, of the sheriff's department. We then noticed that there were human skeletal remains wrapped in fabric underneath a small, very small, few pieces of brush and shrubbery.
Sheriffs said they believe someone dumped a body along Anthony Creek Road 3-12 months ago. They believe the remains are those of a white woman due to the skeletal structure and because they found a gold earring with the remains.
If there is a place for a person to dump a body, this is the perfect place to do it because it's pretty secluded back here, said neighbor Chuck Wilkerson.
Wilkerson and other people in the area said they don't remember seeing anything suspicious, but sheriffs will not be deterred because all they have are old decaying clues.
The biggest obstacle we have is identifying the remains. If you can do that then that person was seen by someone, someone knows something, said Brackett.
Sheriffs are asking all agencies within a 50 mile radius to look through their missing persons reports to help them solve this case.

There have been other news articles about women's body's found wrapped in blankets, but I didn't save them and didn't decide to create this page until the above story surfaced in 2005.
Back in 1996, when Jenifer McCrady was found wrapped in a blanket, I tried to warn police that I believed Jenifer's murder would be "duplicated" - but not necessarily in this area.
I continue to believe that there is one or more serial killers operating in the eastern states. The FBI and other federal agencies do not appear concerned about these cases, and only seem interested in serial killers in the southern and western states of our nation. So be it. I cannot force the people to pay attention to us here in the east. However, I have decided to attempt to keep track of the bodies that turn up dead. Many are already noted in various places on this web site, and now we will have a list of the ones found wrapped in blankets.
I would like to remind everyone - some of Jenifer McCrady's jewelry was missing when she was found murdered. Also missing was some luggage and several thousand dollars. I have no hopes of ever finding the money, as I figured long ago it was spent to buy 2 vehicles for the daughter and girlfriend of a certain man who I continue to see as a suspect in the McCrady case, even though Jackie McCrady was convicted of the crime and has been sitting in prison since 1997.
In the above article, the sheriff asks other police agencies within a 50 mile radius of the crime scene to check their files and see if they have any missing women.
I've said this many, many times, but I'm going to say it again - perhaps if I repeat it often enough, it will sink in - "Serial killers roam hundreds of miles in search of their victims. They may select one from their home area, and take her a hundred miles or more away from that area to dump her. The next victim may be found a hundred miles or more away from his home area, and she may be dumped right there, or she may be driven into another state - another area and dumped. Occasionally the dump site is an indication of where the next victim will come from.
Many of these victims are hookers. This may be because hookers are easy prey for the psychopathic serial killer. They climb into vehicles with strangers on a regular basis, and their lifestyle makes it impossible for family and friends to keep track of them. Some say they deserve what they get. I don't feel that way. I am not a supporter of prostitution, but I do believe that if our courts really wanted to stop prostitution, it could be done. It's just another "money making business" for the greedy, judges of our nation. Fines, fines, fines - money, money, money - that's what it's all about folks.
We haven't had any "local" murders since Jenifer McCrady in 1996 - although there have been a few that got pretty close {within that 50 mile radius!} of where I live. Most have been within a 200 mile radius - which is exactly the distance I identified years and years ago. Many {most} of these case are announced on the news once or twice and then promptly swept under the nearest rug and forgotten. Well, we do have to chase down "runaway brides," and other spoiled, irresponsible crackpots, so I guess the media doesn't have time to worry about serial killers and women who no one misses for months after they disappear.
Skeleton is woman who went missing in 2004

Lenoir -- A human skeleton found Sunday in the woods near Anthony Creek Road belonged to a Lenoir woman reported missing in October, investigators said Wednesday.
An autopsy was conducted Tuesday in Chapel Hill. Doctors used dental records to identify the remains as those of 27-year-old Elizabeth Christina Runion, said Lt. Chris Brackett of the Caldwell County Sheriff's Office.
Runion's sister Nickie reported her missing on Oct. 4, 2004. It had been more than a week since Runion called her mother, which was unusual, Brackett said.
Brackett said Runion had a criminal history and several outstanding warrants for her arrest when she disappeared.
Investigators initially believed she might have fled.
Investigators continued to follow leads in the missing person case as recently as last month, Brackett said.
The time of Runion's disappearance coincides with the estimated time of her death, Brackett said.
A woman and her son were walking through the woods Sunday when they found the skeleton wrapped in a blanket and covered with brush.
The spot where Runion's remains were found is about 20 miles from her last known residence, Brackett said.
Family members prayed outside the Caldwell County Sheriff's Office and pleaded for the publics help Wednesday.
"There's someone out there who knows something," said Deborah Clark, Runion's mother.
Brackett said investigators are looking into new leads in the case, which is being treated as a homicide.
