My friend Sindee called when she got off from work and wanted to know if I planned on coming into Belpre that evening. I told her I didn't think so. I had a couple of things around the house that I wanted to get finished up that evening so I was just going to stay home.
We'd been chatting for a little while when the deep, male voice broke into our conversation.......
"Get fire water," the voice said .....
Sindee and I both laughed ..... we'd heard that voice before. One night it said something about truckers and hookers. We'd laughed that night too, and I'd cracked a smart alec reply - "we're not truckers, we're not hookers and by damned we ain't truckers' hookers either!
"Well, after that, I suppose you'd better come and get me. Sounds like there's something going on tonight that we're supposed to do, or see, or something." I told Sindee.
We drove around Belpre for awhile; didn't see anything of any interest, so we decided to go across the bridge and into Parkersburg. Wasn't anything going on over there either, so we eventually came back to Belpre.
There wasn't much traffic out -- in fact, it eventually came down to Sindee's vehicle and one lone Belpre cop. We'd pass one another as he made his rounds, and as we made ours.
We done our last turnaround for the night and I'd already told Sindee I wanted to head home because there was absolutely nothing going on ....
I glanced down the street that my aunt lives on as we made our final sweep -- and immediately said --- "Turn around Sindee. I saw fire trucks; red lights flashing; there's a fire by Aunt Dorothy's house. Let's make sure she's okay."
Sindee hit the brakes, swung into a parking lot and came right back out and headed for the street my aunt lives on.
Absolutely no more than 30 seconds could have passed and there was absolutely NOTHING anywhere my aunts house! There were no red lights; no emergency vehicles of any kind; not even any house lights on that I might have misconstrued as emergency lights!
"What is wrong with me?" I asked Sindee.
She couldn't answer me.
We traveled slowly down the boulevard with me having some serious self doubts.
"Better take me home," I told Sindee as we passed the Belpre cop again. He looked as if he was heading into the department .... probably to do his paper work before shift change, I figured.
Sindee decided to go down to the service station where our friend Katie worked before leaving town and taking me home. Didn't matter to me. I was still shaking my head in disbelief about those flashing red lights I'd seen -- that wasn't there a minute later!
We talked to Katie for a few minutes and headed back out ......
"One more run down past your aunt's house, just to be safe," Sindee said as she hit the boulevard and headed east.
We made the run and everything was fine, so Sindee turned around and headed toward my house....
"Stop Sindee, stop.... there's a fire," I almost yelled!
Sindee hit the brakes hard and stopped right in the middle of the street!
At first we thought it was a dumpster that was on fire .... but then something strange happened.
The flames parted {for me, but not for Sindee!} and I could see it was the rear end of a vehicle that was ablaze! And to make matters a whole lot worse, the vehicle was parked only about three feet from a mobile home!
"It's a car on fire Sindee. If the gas tank blows it will kill everyone in that trailer! Get out of here and lets call the fire department," I shouted.
Sindee hit the gas as quickly as she'd hit the brakes and off we sped, back to the service station where Katie worked!
Katie called the fire department, which was just across the street from the station --- and we watched as the 'red flashing lights' rolled out to attend to the fire!
We followed closely behind and sat across the street from the blazing vehicle as the cop we'd been 'patrolling with' all night parked his car behind another business and got out and began beating on the end of the trailer and yelling 'fire' in an effort to wake the sleeping people!
They got the fire put out that night, and an officer later told me that it was the strangest burn pattern on that vehicle he'd ever seen. He said it looked as if an accelerant had been sprayed on the trunk area but the flames had parted for some reason and burned up both sides instead of down the middle where the gas tank was!
All Sindee and I could think was --- the voice told us to "Get fire water," and if we had not been there to 'get water for the fire,' those people would probably have died that night.
It would be a few years later before I finally realized that the other message -- the one about the truckers and hookers -- was probably just as important as the 'get fire water' message had been.
We have a serial killer in our nation {one of many} -- but this one is a long-haul trucker, and he's killing hookers and dumping their bodies all across our nation.
He must be known by either Sindee or me -- otherwise, I don't know why the Lord would have sent the message about him, to the two of us. Maybe someday we will have the answer --- Lord willing.
