ASHLAND, Ky. (WSAZ) -- A recently fired Coal Grove, Ohio Police Officer has been arrested for impersonating a peace officer.
Joshua Hayes, 25, of Ashland, was arrested Tuesday.
Ashland Police say that on July 15, officers stopped Hayes vehicle on the 13th Street Bridge in Ashland. Officers say when they asked Hayes for his operator’s license, he produced a Coal Grove Ohio Police Department Identification card and told officers he was in Ashland as part of an investigation he was conducting.
Following the traffic stop, APD officers were advised by Coal Grove Chief of Police, Eric Spurlock that Hayes had been fired on June 7. WSAZ has a call into Coal Grove Police to find out why Hayes was fired.
Officers obtained warrants charging Hayes with one count each of impersonating a peace officer and carrying a concealed deadly Weapon. Hayes was arrested at his house in Ashland on Tuesday.
He is currently in Boyd County Detention Center.
Hayes was initially stopped by the Street Crimes Task Force to be questioned about his involvement in another incident.
